Outside of a small area surrounding Constantinople, the Nationalist Government controlled what is referred to philatelically as "Turkey in Asia" or "Anatolia". From 1920 to 1922, small stocks of old postage stamps, as well large Revenue Stamps (with intricate designs and without western lettering) were handstamped for validation as postage.) | Lot #1211 TURKEY TURKEY IN ASIA 1921 2 Piastres (Amele Pasaport Pulu Uzerine) Laborer's Passport Tax stamp (used in passports of expatriate workers who came to work on the Hejaz Railroad). A total of 182 stamps were overprinted, majority of which however, burnt during the fire in the Bozuyuk post office. Only used copies exist (less than 20), cancelled either at Bozuyuk or Inonu. This example (type III) is ex-Kinsky, with minor thinning and stain at top, signed Herbert Bloch. Only four to five copies of this type are recorded.
